Chocolate Friday: Puppy Chow

January 27, 2012

I think most people have made this and don’t need to see the recipe.  Amazingly, I’ve had this before but never made it.  Didn’t even know it was called such an odd name.  Why is something that tastes so good called Puppy Chow???  Anyone know?

My oldest was going on retreat and they were talking about how good this was.  I decided to make it myself.  Oh my… this is so good and easy.  A wonderful quick snack to make!  Have you had it or made it?  I’m sure my children will request this again!

Puppy Chow

Ingredients

  • 9 cups crispy rice cereal squares
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar

Directions

In a saucepan over low heat, melt the chocolate; add peanut butter and mix until smooth. Remove from heat, add cereal and stir until coated. Pour powdered sugar into large plastic bag, add coated cereal and shake until well coated. Store in airtight container.

Hi, Kristal! I’ve never actually made this, though I’ve heard of it. I have no idea where the name came from. I love simple recipes!

I only recently started hearing it called puppy chow. I’d always known it as muddy buddies.

Ladybug is famous for it, but she uses more PS, so hers come out WHITE. Muddie Buddies, yes, but we call it Puppy Chow too. I think it’s just for fun. Like Vomit dip! YUM!

This is one of our favorite treats, and we’ve always known it as muddie buddies too, though I have heard of it called puppy chow before. I think, personally, I like muddie buddies. ;)
